Platz Landscapes is five generations in the making.
It started in 1908 in Kansas City's West Bottoms, where Thomas Tobin founded Tobin Seed Company. His son Jack taught this city how to garden, a weekday radio show on WDAF, and a television show when TV was new. Jack's daughter Jan married Wayne Platz, and together they owned Colonial Nursery in Blue Springs. Their son Alan has worked that ground for over 30 years.
Jonathan grew up on those acres, stapling the cardboard boxes customers carried plants out in, hauling bird seed, digging arrowheads out of the bulk rock bins.
Alan never put him on the payroll. He wanted his son to go build something of his own. So Jonathan did, ten years in sales, then built what is now Kansas City's largest streetwear brand.
In 2019, father and son started taking landscape jobs together on Alan's days off. By 2020, it was full-time work.
It came full circle. A small, deliberate crew, building custom landscapes like works of art, Jonathan and Alan, side by side. And now a sixth generation is coming up through it.
Built With Intention.
